I am a member of the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism), which seeks to preserve knowledge of how things were done in the years 600 to 1600 A.D. through recreation and study. Kateryn de Develyn is my persona in the Society for Creative Anachronism residing in the Barony of Coeur d'Ennui (Des Moines, IA) in the Kingdom of Calontir.
I enjoy cooking - modern and medieval. I am currently working on a cookbook for those who want to enjoy 14th Century cookery. It will have menus and redacted recipes from several countries.
I enjoy hand-sewing: hardanger and other open-weave laces, blackwork, and quilting. You will soon be able to view several of the 16th Century blackwork samplers I have created in the link list on the left.
I love to travel. I've been to Hong Kong, Australia, Mexico City, Cancun, England, and on a Caribbean cruise. In the U.S. I've been to Hawaii (Island of Maui), Disney World, Louisiana, Alabama, Texas, Washington DC, South Carolina, Virginia, Arizona, Denver, Yellowstone Park, San Francisco, Baltimore, Los Angeles, and all over the states of Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska, with occasional jaunts to Minnesota, Indiana, and Ohio. I'm hoping to visit China next year, and sometime in the future take an Alaskan Cruise.
I also practice bellydancing. I love it. Not very good at it, just barely beyond beginner really. A great way to stretch, tone, and regain flexibility without a lot of boring work. Dance is fun!
I have three cats, a dog (puppy actually - a big German shepherd/husky mix puppy). I also have (what seems to me) a huge home - too big for one person really, but I love all that space!
I have an herb garden, and am into natural medicines.
Musical interests can be best described as eclectic.
